- diced tomatoes or pico de gallo to taste
- shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese to taste

Preparation
- 1
If using homemade taco seasoning, combine all ingredients in a small bowl. If store-bought, measure out 3 Tbsp.
- 2
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- 3
Add 1 lb ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until mostly browned.
- 4
Stir in 1 small diced yellow onion and cook until softened.
- 5
Add 2 minced garlic cloves and cook until fragrant.
- 6
Drain excess grease if necessary, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the pan for flavor.
- 7
Add 3 Tbsp taco seasoning and 1 Tbsp tomato paste to the beef mixture.
- 8
Stir well to coat the beef evenly and cook briefly to toast the spices.
- 9
Pour in 1/2 cup water or broth and stir to combine.
- 10
Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer uncovered until the liquid evaporates but the meat remains moist.
- 11
Remove from heat and keep warm until ready to serve.
- 12
Warm your chosen taco shells or tortillas according to package directions or in a dry skillet.
- 13
Serve the meat in shells topped with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and avocado.
